On the occasion of the preparations for the 700th anniversary of the city of Altstätten, the idea arose in 1998 to supplement the numerous cultural events with a sporty treat. The initiators decided to organize an international U18 soccer tournament. Thanks to the support of Marcel Staub, techn. The leader of the largest youth tournament in Europe (FIFA Youth Cup in Zurich) was able to sign prominent teams to Altstätten during the first event. Due to the great success and the very positive, national response, the OK decided to hold the tournament again in 2000. In view of the financial burden and in order to maintain exclusivity, a 2-year interval was chosen for the implementation. Today, after the FIFA Youth Cup in Zurich and the Easter tournament in Bellinzona, the tournament can be called number 3 in Switzerland. The U18 became a U19 soccer tournament in 2002 due to the restructuring of the age categories. Thanks to the serious construction work, we have also become a popular partner for international tournament organizers. The engagement of high- profile teams is facilitated by these co-operations. We have so far answered inquiries for mergers with other tournaments or more intensive cooperation in other areas (e.g. marketing) because we remain independent and want to continue to put our individual stamp on our tournament.
