April 26, 2016 Altstätten U19 Tournament Celebrates an Anniversary Friday 06 May 2016, the 10th international football tournament kicks off in Altstätten. Meanwhile, what was originally planned to be a one-off event has now become a regular fixture of the football of eastern Switzerland every two years. Following the FIFA Youth Cup and the Bellinzona tournament, the GESA event is the third most important junior tournament in Switzerland. This year the organizing committee team has once again succeeded in enticing an attractive line-up of participants to the upper Rhine valley. Spanish Premiere Six of the teams will already be familiar to the spectators on Ascension Day weekend: in addition to defending champions Atlético Paranaense from Brazil, FC Brügge, Stoke City, St. Gallen, Altstätten verstärkt and the national team of the Principality of Liechtenstein will be participating again. This year the line-up has been expanded to include two premieres. One of them appearing at the upper Rhine valley is the FC Nitra from Slovakia. At present the Slovaks are leading their national junior division by a huge margin and are therefore a powerful attraction for the 2016 event. With the other, the UD Las Palmas, the organizers have been able to fulfil a long-standing wish: for the first time ever a team from the Spanish Premier Division will be appearing in the Rhine Valley. Thus tournament fans can look forward to seeing an attractive and evenly-matched line-up of participants. Live Ticker Service Off the pitch services have been significantly improved for this anniversary event too. In addition to the tournament brochure and website, the Facebook presence has been extended. Furthermore at the anniversary event an LED screen will again keep spectators updated with the latest information. The provisions will be rounded off with a live ticker on the website and it will also be possible to watch videos of the best scenes again. For the provision of this service the international U19 tournament has been able to find a new partner. Most notably the ticker on our website at www.u19.ch has been equipped with new functions. As a consequence the results for each match will be updated within a few seconds. Top-class Program In addition to the line-up of participating teams from seven different countries the organizing committee team has been successful in putting together an attractive supporting program off the pitch. On Friday the Ilztaler Granaten and on Saturday evening the Fäaschtbänkler will be providing the atmosphere in the large party marquee. Both groups have made various TV appearances and are well-aware how to win- over their audiences. The musical entertainment will be topped off by DJ Carlo. The famous "Raclette hut" will once again be a popular meeting point at the anniversary event. Thus spectators are provided with everything they need to make this an unforgettable tournament at the GESA. ------------------------------------ April 8, 2016 The Final Countdown has begun In less than a month’s time the anniversary event of the international U19 football tournament is due to take place at the GESA sports arena in Altstätten. On Friday the draw for the international U19 football tournament 2016 was held in the evening at the Badhof country inn Lüchingen in the presence of 50 invited guests. Once again sponsors' representatives were treated to a successful event with a charming and informal atmosphere. U17 National Team Manager as Guest For the 2016 anniversary evening draw event the organizing committee was again able to present an interesting chat-show guest. The 19-fold Swiss international and current manager of the U17 national team was a guest at this "Opening event" of the tournament. The likeable 50-year-old from Lucerne delighted the audience with his easy-going and frank style. He drew attention to the fact that as far as young players are concerned, talent is not the only decisive factor but that the personality of the individual player is a factor too. In the discussion with organizing committee member Felix Buschor the topic of the firing of managers was also addressed: “As a manager you cannot satisfy everyone's opinion and be universally popular. Firing the manager produces a short-term advantage, but as time goes by the same problems resurface with the successor." Problematic Search for Teams The highlight of the evening was the draw for the allocation of team sponsors for the participating U19 teams. President of the organizing committee Urs Steiger presented the latest news concerning the 2016 event as well as introducing the teams. He thanked his organizing team for their outstanding efforts and the time expended in the region on this unique tournament. According to Steiger on Friday evening, “We are hosting a colourful and attractive field of participants in Altstätten. Sadly attracting teams from top leagues to participate at the GESA is becoming more difficult from year to year. The early inward journey date and schedule of league fixtures do not exactly play into our hands. Nonetheless we are able to welcome a team from both Slovakia and Spain for the very first time." Good Fun at the Draw Organizing Committee President Urs Steiger's speech and the chat session were followed by the appearance of Vice-President Urs Schneider. He was responsible for the smooth running of the draw process for the team sponsors. At the outset the organizing committee member thanked the sponsors present for their generous support for the tournament: “It is not something to be taken for granted that we have such loyal sponsors. Without such support holding a tournament of this kind would not be viable. Both additional pillars - the sponsored run and the circle of friends with around 350 members - are also crucial mainstays of our tournament." Following this introduction the exciting yet good-natured part of the draw had finally arrived. Subsequently each sponsor was drawn and called upon to burst balloons containing the teams with a dart. By this method the following groups and team sponsors were drawn: Group A: UD Las Palmas (Hirslanden, Klinik am Rosenberg & Beerli Storen GmbH), FC St. Gallen (St. Galler Kantonalbank & CMA CNC-Mechanik AG), Stoke City (Eugster Treuhand & Caron Fahrzeugtechnik AG) and FC Altsätten verstärkt (Zünd Mobile Center AG & Schreinerei Popp AG). Group B: FC Nitra (Gschwend + Willi AG & Zünd Systemtechnik AG), Atlético Paranaense (Credit Suisse AG & Clientis Biene Bank im Rheintal), U19 Nationalmannschaft Liechtenstein (Alpha Rheintal Bank AG & Panaccount Consulting Est.) and Club Brugge (Wüst Metallbau AG & Gasthaus Lindenhof). Participants 2016 Looking Forward to the Tournament Following the official programme the vice president thanked all those present for coming to the Badhof country inn and again announced that the 100-page tournament brochure which includes a review of the last nine editions would be published during the course of the next few weeks. Photos of the draw evening and the schedule of fixtures for the anniversary event have now been uploaded to the appropriate section. (dsi) ------------------------------------- 02 February 2016 Two firsts for the anniversary event The starting field for the International U19 football tournament from 06 May to 07 May 2016 is complete. For the first time the organizing committee has succeeded in engaging teams from Slovakia and Spain.  FC Nitra, leaders in the Slovakian U19 championships are making a guest appearance at the GESA. The team from the sixth largest city in the country is heading the table with a commanding nine point lead from 13 games and hence has earned the participation at the tournament in Altstätten. The starting field is rounded off by the first Spanish club to appear in the upper Rhine valley. Union Deportiva Las Palmas is the eighth junior team at Altstätten. With the participation by the juniors from the Primera División club - the top Spanish division - the wish to engage a Spanish team has come true. Thus the following eight teams will be playing at the 10 th international U19 football tournament 2016 at the GESA: U19 Liechtenstein, FC St. Gallen, Atlético Paranaense (defending champions), Stoke City FC, Club Brugge, FC Nitra, UD Las Palmas and hosts FC Altstätten verstärkt. The groups for the anniversary event will be drawn on 19 February and published here on our website and on our Facebook page. >> Participants 2016 ------------------------------------- 19 January 2016 LFV selection is sixth participant - entertainment program ready ALTSTÄTTEN. The Liechtenstein U19 National Team is the sixth participant at the international football tournament at the GESA sports arena in Altstätten. For the young talents of the principality it is the second appearance At The International Tournament following that of 2014. The last time the tournament was held the national selection took a sixth in the final placings. In the group phase the national team won against "FC Altstätten Selection" and managed to win a point against the later finalists Stoke City. At the present time intensive discussions are taking place with other potential participants for the tournament. Participation has already been confirmed by defending champions Atletico Paranaense, Club Brugge K.V., Stoke City, FC St. Gallen and FC Altstätten verstärkt. ------------------------------------- 19 January 2016 Top-class Entertainment Away from the pitch visitors can look forward to a fantastic programme. The organizing committee has succeeded in engaging a top-class LINE- UP. On the Friday evening "Die Granaten" will take care of the atmosphere in the party marquee. The Austrian group caters for a wide spectrum of music. A huge success for the relatively new band was an appearance in the TV show "Musikantenstadl". The live act for the Saturday evening can boast an appearance of this kind too. The well-known Rhine valley group "Fäschtbänkler" is honouring the GESA with their presence again this year. The popular young musicians sing everything from old hits and Slovenian "Oberkrain" music through folk music to pop and rock. The programme will be peppered with solos, choreographed dance and 'a capella' quintet performances. The popular DJ Carlo from the Rhine valley will take care of the entertainment during the intermissions. ------------------------------------- 19 January 2016 Meeting point "Raclette Stübli" The GESA is again able to provide an attractive infrastructure. As well as the fine St Gallen bratwurst, this May there will also be the opportunity to savour original Valais raclette in the homely "Raclette- Stübli" at the GESA. The "Raclette hut" has emerged as one of the most popular meeting points in recent years and is therefore a key element of our concept this year too.  The existing infrastructure will be augmented by a large party marquee in which bands will perform live music. ------------------------------------- 05 November 2015 Two tournament winners are back for the 2016 tournament Following the popular participants Stoke City, Bruges and the home team FC Altstätten verstärkt, the teams of Atlético Paranaense and FC St. Gallen have now confirmed their participation in the 2016 tournament. The defending champions from Brazil will be travelling to Altstätten on the 6 th  and 7 th  of May. It is already the third appearance of the South Americans at the international U19 tournament. Traditionally Switzerland will again be represented by FC St. Gallen in addition to FC Altstätten. The club from the canton capital is also a member of the tournament winners' class; the Super League representatives from eastern Switzerland having won the tournament in 2000. The first five participants are now known. "We are holding talks with interesting prospective clubs and hope to be able to announce more in the near future," says president of the organizing committee Urs Steiger. With that said, the organizing committee is bang on schedule for staging the event at the GESA in Altstätten. Information on participating teams will be continuously updated on our website in the "Tournament 2016" section. In addition you can get the latest news on the Facebook page of the international U19 tournament. (dsi) ------------------------------------- 23 September  2015 Only a few changes to the organizing committee and the first teams have been named. The organizing committee has made a start with the planning of the 10th international U19 tournament. Once again there is only one small change to the organizing committee. After many years of participation in the organization, festival host Christoph Züllig is the only one to announce his resignation. On the other hand with Dominik Sieber it has been possible to man the communications and media desk again. Thus under the leadership of President Urs Steiger the team is able to maintain its reliance on continuity. Good news can already be reported with respect to the participants at the tournament. With Stoke City and Club Brugge it has been possible to sign two attractive clubs who also participated at the last event at the GESA. As well as the English and Belgian teams, the home team will also be starting again. In this jubilee event the "Altstätten verstärkt" team is being managed by the experienced juniors’ manager Daniel Eugster. At this moment in time discussions are in progress with other potential participants for this next tournament. Moreover in the entertainment sector arrangements for the first evening have already been able to be finalized. Once again the well-known group "Fäaschtbänkler" will provide the atmosphere in the party marquee at the GESA. (dsi)
